La Calandria collaborates with the Fundacion Conservacionista Costarricense that works to protect and restore habitat through direct purchases and reforestation. One of the Fundacion's native tree nursaries is located on La Calandria property and guests are welcome to help out!

 

Several research projects are on-going with researchers of the Fundacion, including bellbird census, phenology studies, and the over-wintering survival of neotropical migratory birds (the MoSI project of Bird Population Organization, Point Reyes, CA). Depending upon timing, guests may participate in these activities.

 

 

The image on the right is of the "Change The World Kids Vivero". This is the nursary where all of the trees destined for reforestation start out. It is capable of holding 1500 saplings representing dozens of species at one given time.
